About the event

Context

  • UX-Boost is a four-day product design intensive

  • Participants worked on real product challenges from the IVI and Yandex Food teams with less than 24 hours to develop solutions

Evaluation

Solutions were evaluated by product teams based on feasibility, business value, and scalability

Case 1: IVI Case 1: IVI — co-watching as a retention mechanic

Problem

Co-watching is a potential growth opportunity, but the current experience does not support:

  • coordinated content selection

  • structured interaction between viewers

  • group social dynamics

Risk

Chaotic playback control and timeline conflicts

Users move to third-party services

↓ retention for shared viewing sessions

Hypothesis

If structured co-watching mechanics are integrated directly into IVI, the service can replace third-party solutions and increase engagement

task

Propose three features for co-watching on TV controlled through the IVI mobile app

Constraints

  • Less than 24 hours

  • 400 characters per feature description

  • Adult audience (18+)

  • Competition with third-party services

  • Solutions must be realistic for implementation

Competitor analysis and solution design process

Feature 1: Group content selection

User problem

Difficulty agreeing on what to watch

Mechanics

  • Voting for a movie or show

  • Recommendations based on overlapping interests

  • Two-step selection process

Feature 1

Feature 2: Gamified viewing

User problem

Passive content consumption during co-watching sessions

Mechanics

  • Trivia questions during pauses

  • “Guess the character’s line” mini-games

  • Points and participant leaderboards

Feature 2

Feature 3: Public rooms for live sports

User problem

  • Live sports are usually watched individually at home

  • Users cannot quickly find and replay specific moments

Mechanics

  • Large public watch parties

  • Voting and live chat

  • Highlight markers for key moments

  • Discussions around specific moments in the stream

Feature 3

Case 2: Yandex Food — reducing courier drop-off after registration

Problem

Some couriers:

  • register in the app

  • receive their equipment

  • never start their first delivery shift

Yandex hypothesis

The first working day causes anxiety and leads to procrastination

Hypothesis

If new couriers get a safe “first experience” through a simulated delivery order, the barrier to starting their first shift will decrease

Work process

First Virtual Order experience

  • simulation of a real delivery route

  • simple behavioral scenarios

  • instant reward (₽500)

  • confirmation of a successful start

Product logic

  • reducing uncertainty

  • habit formation

  • dopamine reinforcement
